Mulching is an important part of gardening in Queensland. It helps save water, keeps roots cool in summer and warm in winter, keeps the weeds down and generally keeps our gardens looking cleaner and looked after. There are many different kinds of mulches available, and some of these have different purposes so be sure to use th e right mulch for your situation. Ideally most mulches should be spread 30mm thick and never more than 50mm. These depths give you ideal moisture retention in the soil, while still allowing light rain to reach the roots. For garden beds, we use and recommend Ti-Tree Mulch, Cypress Mulch, Mulch Plus or Easy Wetta Mulch. Vegetable gardens often utilise Lucerne or Sugar Cane Mulch, and these are perfect for this use. Pine Barks are a great decorative addition to pots or garden beds.
